As a part of our maudern people series, we asked New York-based couple Sierra Tishgart & Galen Hall for insights on modern intimacy. Tishgart is the co-founder of the cookware brand Great Jones. Formerly an editor and writer, she has been featured in Domino, Into the Gloss and Bon Apetit; her husband Galen Hall is a professional poker player.
What is your relationship status?
Married, 6 months ago.
With social distancing & quarantine, how has human contact changed for you?
My husband Galen and I got married in October. We used to live and work in different states, so we're suddenly spending more time together than ever before. Fortunately, we're enjoying it! But our time together used to be 90 percent "quality time" (mostly on weekends), while now, most of our time together is spent coworking in our apartment. I think it's hard but important to draw lines between work and play, so we're not just spending time together; we're spending time bonding and engaging with each other.
How do you make time for intimacy?
I'm trying to treat weekends like real weekends—it's easier then to turn off the news and our Zooms and sleep in and feel sexy. We also try and start each day by doing a 15-minute yoga class from The Mirror together.

What is your shared goal of the space (or spaces) you occupy?
A sense of joy! For me, that means cleanliness, which gives me a feeling of control. For Galen, that means quiet time. It's been an adjustment for me to not blurt out the first thing I think to him, at any time—he's working too!
What is a new activity you are planning to try?
We've been playing video games together! This was going very well until Galen called me "dude."
I'm also teaching Galen to cook, and he's teaching me how to play poker.
How will you keep busy?
Running a business (Great Jones) during such an uncertain time keeps me extremely busy. I am busier right now in isolation than before.
Do you have a book or movie on your list while home?
I've already watched Little Women TWICE.
