Louise.

louise.

As a part of our maudern people series, we asked Australia-based yoga teacher and model Louise Kenny for insights on modern intimacy. The globe-trotting yogi has been slowing down, making her sessions digital.

What is your relationship status?
Singleish, an empty nester, no parents, no grandchildren, a mother, a sister, a lover

With social distancing & quarantine, how has human contact changed for you?
I think it is Day 2 out of isolation today. It's so sunny the sky is bursting blue with the sharpest crisp horizon line.

Our skin gets the gentle autumn sun, our muscles twist and turn, we go upside down into half handstand, we kindly adjust each other into position in standing balances.

How do you make time for intimacy?
My local beach is walking distance, which I usually drive to after my partner has already walked at dawn. We meet on the lifesavers ramp...to practice yoga on most mornings for an hour or more until I'm feeling hunger or the sun gets too high. Our skin gets the gentle autumn sun, our muscles twist and turn, we go upside down into half handstand, we kindly adjust each other into position in standing balances.

How has your perspective on your home/space changed?
[It is] a time of peace and allowing mother nature's immersion. I’ve been living in London for 6-9 months per year for the last 5 years, I was about to head back to Europe for work toward the end of March but of course, that didn’t transpire, due to lockdown, so I have turned my living room into a space to film yoga sequences

How do you keep busy? Do you separate the weekend and weekdays?
My new little espresso [machine] is getting plenty of plays along with the film of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I am listening to The Murlocs, Liz Stringer, and dance to Tina Turner late at night with Prosecco. What day is it? I think it’s the weekend, judging by the amount of crew on the beach this morning.

What is a new activity you are planning to try?
I've increased hula hooping time, painted a room, set up music room, pulled out the ivy, and planted veggies. I wonder if tennis is back on, meanwhile I play heaps of table tennis.

I’ve also got 2 chords on the Mandolin down and a 3rd close by. I want to sing like Martha Wainwright, no iso[lation] will be long enough for that.

Do you have a book or movie on your list while home?
Just finished reading Archie Roach Tell Me Why ...there was no question mark after it, which I found strange, is he asking a question? Or is he asking for an explanation, because I still don't really understand how the story of the aboriginal Uluru can be ignored, our history needs to be understood and rewritten and reeducated to the masses.
