some (attainable) new year’s resolutions.

Instead of swearing off alcohol, doing the Whole 30, or working out twice a day, here are some achievable goals to set in 2020.

  1. Watch less news. With push notifications and an impeachment going on, this is easier said than done. But according to a study, more than half of Americans say the news causes them stess, anxiety or loss of sleep. So do yourself a favor and try to limit your news consumption, especially before bed.

  2. Just say no. To hanging out, happy hour, going to your in-laws’ house, your co-worker’s cousin’s baby shower. You don’t have to do it all, nor should you be expected to. JOMO, or the “joy of missing out” is a real thing. Stay home, or get a massage. It’s never selfish to take care of yourself.

  3. Go out for lunch. Too many of us take ten minutes to inhale our lunches at our desk before moving on with the day. Sure, it may not be possible or financially feasible to go out every day. But just changing the scenery can reinvigorate you. Bring a book, sit in a park and relax. Don’t worry, the copier jam will still be there when you get back.

  4. Take a bath. Research shows that taking a hot bath 1-2 hours before bed can help you fall asleep and stay asleep. When we were kids, we took baths almost every night right before bed, with our favorite rubber ducky toy. Now that we’re adults, we can light a candle, have some wine and just close our eyes. Rubber ducky optional.

  5. Make your side hustle your main hustle. Do you have a hobby that takes up almost as much time as your actual job? Do you love it more than anything? Why not explore ways to turn your hobby into a paying job? It doesn’t have to be sudden. But doing research, creating a website and getting advice from friends are all pretty easy. There’s no time like the present!

Here’s to a safe, happy and healthy New Year!
