Morning Sex And Why It's Better – maude Skip to content

A case for morning sex.

a case for morning sex.

Because there's more to rise and shine than you think.

We’re all for shaking the sheets at any time of day or night, but research shows that morning sex is especially beneficial. Here’s why.

It wakes you up.

Though you may technically be awake, sometimes your body thinks otherwise. You’re conscious and moving, sure, but your brain’s barely firing on one, rusty cylinder. Morning sex to the rescue. Not only does orgasm—or prolonged pleasure—increase oxygen and blood flow to your brain, it also flushes the groggy organ with the vital nutrients it needs to really wake up as well.

It’s a stress release.

Ever heard that it’s better to meditate in the morning because it puts you in a relaxed, positive frame of mind for the rest of the day? Well, think about how great you feel after getting laid. Researchers at the University of Cincinnati found that pleasurable activities like sex—which stimulates oxytocin, aka “the love hormone”—reduce stress and anxiety, meaning you’ll likely be feeling chilled out for the rest of the day.

It makes you look good.

That post-coital glow is hard to fake, but it sure looks great—and can last throughout the day. Dr. David Weeks, formerly of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, researched the health benefits of sex for older people and found that intercourse stimulates the human growth hormone that makes your skin appear more elastic. In fact, he went so far as to say that regular lovemaking can make you look five to seven years younger. So, really, it’s the perfect excuse to add it to your morning beauty routine.

It keeps you healthy.

For women, in particular, a morning jaunt in bed can boost the immune system because it creates antibodies that help fight off bacteria, viruses and other nasty microbes. All that before you’ve even had time to take your morning vitamins.

It burns calories.

Let’s face it: Getting naked with someone is far more enticing than a morning jog. And while we won’t try to pretend that you’ll be burning as many calories (though we encourage you to try), you’ll likely get your pulse pumping enough to call it exercise. And if you’re in a hurry, an intense quickie is sure to get you sweating.

It cultivates intimacy.

After a busy, exhausting day, sometimes a Netflix binge wins out over any kind of carnal activity with your partner. But get the deed done in the morning and you’ll benefit from strengthened intimacy—and still have time for mindless screen time in the evening.
